You are more than your circumstances, your illnesses, your trauma, and your pain.
Hi, I'm Carol
I believe that we are more than the sum of our parts or the labels placed upon us by ourselves or the world around us. I will meet you where you are, and together we will travel the path you have chosen.
Clients often find my approach direct, realistic, resourceful, kind, accepting, and humorous. My approach is highly personalized and shaped to fit you. I am trained in many approaches and blend those that best suit your learning, tolerance, and abilities in the moment.

I create a safe space for you to be vulnerable, learn to trust, and believe in yourself – maybe for the first time.
Hi, I’m Doreen
For adult children of alcoholics and neurotypical partners in neurodiverse relationships, you may often feel driven by people-pleasing, perfectionism, and an inability to relax. You may walk through life and your relationships feeling unseen, unheard, misunderstood, and not believed. My commitment? I see you. I hear you. I understand you, and I believe you. Your experience is valid, and your needs matter. Find your voice, your balance, and your next step forward.
My clients appreciate my direct, gentle, compassionate, understanding, and strength-based approach.

Whether slow or fast, your steps will still reach your destination, so why not try to enjoy the trip?

Growing up in an ableist world with people who will never fit that mold made me very aware of how the systems humans have created routinely fail to find value in those who don't fit the socially accepted mold. Not every social expectation is healthy or necessary, and "typical" doesn't mean better. Humans are endlessly resourceful, diverse, and complex. Why would we ever try to make ourselves anything less?
I enjoy working with a wide variety of people from different cultures, backgrounds, and ages because there is beauty in the blending of so many perspectives, and it fits my natural tendency to be an eclectic therapist. As an Eclectic therapist, I am trained in and practice a wide variety of interventions, often blending those that best meet the client's needs. Treatment is tailored to the client.
I earned my Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from the University of South Carolina in 2002 and have worked in a variety of behavioral health settings, including disability services, mental health, hospice, home health, long-term care facilities, and domestic violence intervention with perpetrators and survivors. I became a Licensed Independent Social Worker, Clinical Practice (LISW-CP) in 2007. I am an Academy Certified Social Worker (ACSW) and a Certified Hypnotherapist with a focus on relaxation-based pain relief (RBPR) and trauma treatment. I currently maintain memberships in the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH).
In my free time, I enjoy learning new things, finding creative solutions, working on the family farm, and spending quality time with my family and on my own.

Life is rich, beauty is all around us, and each personal connection is an opportunity for personal growth.

As an adult child of alcoholics with non-neurotypical relationships, I am all too familiar with the confusion, people pleasing, isolation, invisibility, and the deep pain of believing you don’t matter. I promised myself I’d become the kind of therapist you need. I create a safe space for you to be vulnerable, learn to trust, and believe in yourself – maybe for the first time. Together, we will take simple, manageable steps to begin loving yourself. In our sessions, you will chart a path for your best self, learn to recognize the habits that create barriers on that path, and develop the skills needed to move beyond them. We can do this, and I will be with you every step of the way. I will listen, but my superpower is that I will also hear what you are not saying.
I work with adults of all ages, but I specialize in trauma recovery, parts work, life transitions, aging/end of life, Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACoAs), and non-autistic partners in non-neurotypical relationships. I am certified by the Association for Autism and Neurodiversity Education (AANE) in couples therapy/coaching for couples with an autistic partner.
I earned my Master of Education in Counseling Psychology (M.Ed.) from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1998 and a BS in Counseling from Wayne State College in 1995. I am a Licensed Practicing Counselor (LPC), Licensed Practicing Clinical Counselor (LPCC), and Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and have been in private practice since 2004. I am a member of the South Carolina Clinical Mental Health Counselors Association, the Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing International Association (EMDRIA), and am an Employee Assistance Provider with various companies.
In my free time, I enjoy being out in nature, self-improvement, and staying physically active.
